Eating out in Assam: Highway Dhabas!

Like most parts in India, 'dhabas' (restaurants along highways) are an integral stopovers while travelling in Assam. Whether its private cars or bus loads of people, all stop at the numerous dhabas that dot the highways to fill their stomachs. Popular towns or villages for such stops are Sonapur, Raha, Jakhalabandha, Bokakhat, Numaligarh, Dergaon along NH-37 or Orang, Mangaldoi along NH-52. These 2 are the main highways in Assam, 37 connecting Goalpara to Roing in Arunachal Pradesh covering 750 kms while no. 52 starts at north of Guwahati to Itanagar covering 850 kms. (Source:Wikipedia!).
Some of these places are famous for certain stuff like the pedhas and Pur-sabzi in Bokakhat or Rasgullas of Orang both of which I find to be over hyped! Personally,I prefer the thalis (a meal consisting of several vegetarian or non-vegetarian dishes accompanied by rice, breads etc.) along with some meat dishes ordered separately. Dhabas are a great place to eat and relax and most are located at scenic spots while at some stretches like Sonapur near Guwahati there seems to be an explosion of dhabas. Anyways, for us hungry travellers, the more options the better!

Jet Airways-Konnect-Lite to BLR!
So after a months stay at home,it was time to head back to Bangalore. Booked a Jet Airways flight which had a long 4 hour layover at the horrendous Kolkata airport! As usual their product was pretty confusing, the GAU-CCU flight turned out to be full service (just some snacks but surprise nevertheless!). The CCU-BLR part was on Jet Konnect (their semi frill flights) but the actual flight number had S2 codes (Jetlite) which was ex-Air Sahara later merged with Jet blah blah..phew! And then the plane turned out to be a normal Jet ‘Airways’ 737 (VT-JLE)!
If you’re having a long layover at Kolkata, don’t wait for the last minute to go for security check..the lines are long and I never heard any announcements! And they may abruptly start boarding even before the designated time!
Boarding was crazy and it took me 15 mins to reach my seat! Anyways, rest of the flight was boring and normal! (all these pics were taken with my ancient mobile phone so apologies for the quality)!!

My painting done!
Fought my laziness and have almost completed my latest painting in a week! Used oil colours. What I have painted is the phenomena called ‘Mud puddling’ which is seen in butterflies where they gather on moist banks of sand or mud and similar damp patches, to suck salts along with water to obtain nutrients.

Does anyone miss these old paper tickets?
These Jet Airways and Air Sahara tickets were from flights I took between 2004-2005. They had a feel good factor and charm which nowadays is not there anymore! Electronic ticket is a good idea but then you still need a lousy printout simply to enter the airport in India, a rule which the airlines are trying hard to get rid off!

Skeletor in his Land shark!
Got this when I was 5 or 6 maybe..probably in ‘90 or ‘91! Its still in good condition along with my other He-Man and GI Joe toys though I lost a couple of the Hot Wheel cars. I kinda believe that the quality of toys in India have become worse with all those Ben-10 and other lame stuff filling up the stores and the classic GI Joe and similar ones becoming extinct. Miss the 90s..they were so awesome!
